From April 13 to this weekend, China's top ten cities, including Shanghai and Guangzhou, saw a nearly 80% increase in housing reservations over the same period in March.
The new crown pneumonia epidemic has caused a stagnation in the global tourism industry and caused a heavy blow. But recent Airbnb data shows that in early April, the number of domestic homestay bookings increased by more than 200% over the same period in March.
According to data from the research institute AirDNA (including international tourists ’bookings in China), from April 13 to this weekend, China ’s top ten cities, including Shanghai and Guangzhou, saw a nearly 80% increase in housing bookings over the same period in March. AirDNA CEO Scott Shafford said that despite this, it is still in a downturn. This data is about half of the bookings for the week of January 6 this year. AirDNA's data model also shows that starting in May, China's average daily bookings will be similar to the same period in 2019. Shafford said that Airbnb owners will not, like hotels, offer large discounts online to attract tourists.
China is an important market for Airbnb. The outside world is closely watching China's recovery from the new coronary pneumonia epidemic, so that other countries and related companies that are being severely affected by the virus can learn from China's successful experience.
In early April, Airbnb received two financings totaling $ 2 billion, with a valuation of $ 18 billion, which is far below its 2017 F-round financing of $ 31 billion.
Paul Maguire, a partner of Air Edge, a venture capital firm that owns Airbnb shares, said: "Leave the city to a new place, where do you want to live? You are more likely to choose short-term rentals rather than high-end hotels."
